JSU Softball splits with Alabama A&M

The Jackson State Lady Tigers softball team split a Saturday SWAC double header with the Alabama A&M Lady Bulldogs at the JSU Softball Complex. AAMU won the first game 7-6 and JSU bounced back to win the second 4-2. Jessica Villegas suffered the loss in the opener. She went seven innings and allowed seven hits and seven runs. She struck out three batters.

Kristine Miles picked up the win. In five innings of work she gave up 12 hits and six runs. Amanda Boggan led JSU offensively, going 2-4 with two runs and a RBI. Ebony Stevenson and Alla Williams each recorded two hits and a run. Stevenson had two RBI and Williams had one. ReíQuincia Mack led AAMU with two hits, two runs and two RBI. She also recorded the only home run of the game.

In the second game Brittanie Talley picked up the win in seven innings of work. She allowed only three hits and two runs, while striking out seven batters. Debra Borcherding suffered the loss. In six innings of work she gave up nine hits and nine runs.

Boggan finished the game with three hits and a run scored. Villegas had three hits and two RBI and Ray Williams had two hits and a run.

Mack recorded two hits.

Jackson State (13-23) will return to action April 1 when the Lady Tigers travel to Birmingham, Ala. to face Birmingham Southern in non-conference action.
